How many ah in a aa battery

They can be charged up to times and last longer than alkaline or NiCd batteries. One set of relatively inexpensive NiMH rechargeable batteries can save you from buying thousands if throwaway alkaline batteries.

The mAh capacity rating refers to the storage capacity available for a particular battery. A battery with a capacity rating of mAh could deliver a current of mA for one hour. Higher mAh ratings for the same battery type will generally mean longer run times. This does not apply when comparing different types of batteries. This means that you may not be able to predict how long your electronic device will run just by looking at the capacity rating of a battery. When powering high drain electronic devices like digital cameras, computer peripherals, or portable music players, an alkaline battery will only deliver a small fraction of its rated capacity.

But when it comes to actually powering an electronic device like a digital camera, the NiMH batteries will often run the device for three or four times a long. Alkaline batteries have a high rated capacity, but they can only deliver their full capacity if the power is used slowly. I was surprised at how this cell shines for high current applications. The green and red curves were the same cell run twice at 2 amps.

Evidently for high current applications the rechargeable battery is a much better choice, both for amp hours and for keeping the voltage high during discharge. I still use the disposable because of the convenience, but both for total cost and number of pictures between battery change-out there is a good reason to use these rechargeable cells.

Industrial battery engineering. Battery design. Mercury and silver oxide batteries have nearly twice the capacity as alkaline batteries of the same size but the current ratings are significantly lower. Alkaline batteries also have good shelf life making them ideal for home-made electronic projects. Rechargeable batteries have less capacity than primary cells as shown in the following chart. This chart shows the capacity as a percentage of the capacity of an alkaline battery with the same dimensions.

For a device that uses four AA batteries, mA is probably sufficient, but I wouldn't bet my life on it. Hopefully someone else can give you suggestions on how to estimate or measure the current requirements. How long [hours] do the batteries last in the device when run at full power until they die? What is the capacity [mA hour] of the batteries tested? From this we can estimate average current [mA] required, since we know, approximately, the voltage of each battery as 1. Once you figure out how things are wired up, it will probably be easier to just make the adapter and test it out than it will be to waste time agonizing over whether it will work or not.
