What makes the 5d better than the 7d
Videography 1. The maximum resolution available for videos shot with the main camera. Although it may be possible to choose among other frame rates, those recordings usually have lower resolutions.
A phase-detection autofocus system is faster than a contrast detection autofocus system. Even when recording scenes with a lot of fast movements, the videos are sharp and clear. When recording movies they stay focussed and sharp. Nowadays, it is used to create film-like motion characteristics. Audio 1. A microphone port allows connecting external high-end or specialized microphones. A stereo microphone allows to record audio files or movies in stereo without an external microphone. More microphones result in better sound quality and enable the device to filter out background noise.
Battery 1. Battery life CIPA shots. CIPA is an independent, standard measurement that determines how many shots a camera can take before the battery dies. The battery is removable and can be replaced by the user if broken. The battery can be recharged and used over again. An indicator shows you when the device has low battery. Battery power, or battery capacity, represents the amount of electrical energy that a battery can store.

Water-resistant devices can resist the penetration of water, such as powerful water jets, but not being submerged into water.
An optical viewfinder or OVF allows the photographer to compose a shot while seeing exactly what the lens will capture. OVFs have no time lag and require no power - as opposed to electronic viewfinders, which can drain battery life.
OVFs are also better in low light situations. We consider a lower weight better because lighter devices are more comfortable to carry. A lower weight is also an advantage for home appliances, as it makes transportation easier, and for many other types of products.
With less than full coverage, you may have to crop your photos afterward to get them looking perfect. A hot shoe can be used to attach an external flash, as well as light meters, viewfinders, rangefinders and other attachments. Resolution is an essential indicator of a screen's image quality, representing the maximum amount of pixels that can be shown on the screen.
The resolution is given as a compound value, comprised of horizontal and vertical pixels. A higher screen resolution provides a sharper image, making it easier to review your photos. A system camera has many interchangeable components such as lenses, flashes, and other accessories.
System cameras offer greater flexibility than compact cameras. Optics 1. The larger the sensor the more light the sensor captures yielding in better image quality.
The more focus points the more flexibility in picking which part of the scene to focus on. They also give the image sensor a better probability in identifying the right area of the scene to focus on in more automatic modes. The number of megapixels determines the resolution of the images captured with the main camera.
A higher megapixel count means that the camera is capable of capturing more details. I suspect it is heavier too.
I also have an EF 28mm f2. I have never even thought about focusing speed on either lens so that means they are plenty fast enough for me. Both just snap into focus. Action shooters might have a different opinion though please chime in. First I should say that I have no experience with the Canon 5 series cameras but I have been using a Canon 7D for 8 years and still can't find a good reason to replace it.
My comments below are all for the Canon 7D. The metering system of the Canon 7D is quite good and flexible. In your case I would recommend using Center-weighted average metering or possible Partial metering. I suggest you turn on the camera's Highlight Alert and start checking it until you figure out what metering technique is working best, then leave it on and keep checking. If you see anything but a specular highlight blinking then it is overexposed in a JPG.
I use Center-weighted average metering and get very good results. I also keep the camera's Highlight Alert turned on and check it frequently. The 7D can do focus tracking but that is mainly for subject approaching or receding. Focus tracking does require that you get the setting right if you want it to work well.
I suggest you use Single Point AF. I have tried all the 7D AF options and this is the one that works best in most cases. I do this so that the AF points are where the face will be located in portraits. This greatly reduces the amount recomposing necessary after focusing. If the preset AF point isn't where you want it it is quick and easy to move the AF point. If you are doing street shooting I would suggest you use the center AF point and recompose.
This will work fine if you aren't shooting with a shallow depth of field and close to the subject. Depth of Field Table. Outdoors you do use wide apertures to give you a shallow DOF to blur distracting backgrounds but you can compensate for the smaller sensor by using a longer focal length and backing off a bit more from the subject.
You should be shooting from 15' in any case to minimize extension distortion so DOF is rarely a problem even outdoors. Ken Rockwell Portrait Lenses. Some lenses are very good and fast, some are slow. I do recommend that you test the focus accuracy of your lenses and use Auto Focus Microadjustsment if necessary. Three of my four lenses "needed" so little AFMA that it was unnecessary to use it.
After adding the AFMA to this lens it is now sharp as a tack. Hi there! Yea, I know checking highlights alert would be the most accurate but if there's anything such as a highlight priority metering, that would be the best like in the newer Nikons? Oh right, that is some nice info there! Are there any benefits to using af point expansion vs single point for tracking? Larger af active area? I understand what you are saying but it is actually 2.
Improves the highlight detail. The gradation between the grays and highlights becomes smoother. If the subject moves off the center of the image then using AF Expansion will help keep it in focus. Check p. I felt the 5D1 could do critical moment single shots. Shot fine in weddings but I didn't really like it for tracking action, off centre AF and the slow burst rate. Eventually I got the 7D1 and it felt like a hotrod compared to the 5D1.
Even though the 5D images were nicer, I felt the 7D was a do everything camera. I didn't know how much that mattered to me until I shot on a 6D1.
As mentioned above it outlasted a superior IQ machine in the 5D1 and a more sophisticated, robust and capable 1D3. I'm sure the 7D1 is pretty attractively priced right now used. I think the 80D looks quite attractive although more expensive. More sophisticated AF system, improved noise and DR and respectable 7fps burst. However, i'm trying to find out if there's value within a minimal budget.
For the price of 80d, i'd just go ahead with a 5diii haha. Is it worth the hefty price tag? We take a look at the Cine, the high-end model in this series.
